Funeral Tributes
Funeral tributes — also known as named or letter tributes — are floral pieces that spell out a relationship or a name in solid blooms, typically displayed at the head of the casket or carried in the hearse. They are among the most personal expressions of grief and love, naming the bond between the deceased and the family member who chose them. Every letter tribute in our collection is composed by hand by our network of trusted local florists across Greater London.

Choosing a Funeral Tribute
The most common letter tributes are MUM, DAD, GRANDAD, NAN and BROTHER or SISTER, but we compose any name, word or short phrase to brief — including short messages such as REST IN PEACE or simply the deceased’s first name. Each letter is built on a foam frame and packed with blooms in a single colour or a coordinated palette so the word reads cleanly from a distance.
The standard letter height is around 9 inches, suitable for transport in the hearse and for placement in chapels of rest. Larger pieces of 12–18 inches are available for graveside services and outdoor venues, where their scale befits the occasion.
Symbolism of the Blooms
- Red Roses: Deep love and lasting devotion — the most chosen for partner and parent tributes.
- White Chrysanthemums: Honour, loyalty and lasting friendship.
- Pink Carnations: A mother’s love and remembrance.
- Mixed Seasonal Blooms: A celebration of a colourful life, often chosen for grandparents and friends.
- Cream Roses with Eucalyptus: Quiet elegance for formal services. For practical guidance on what to expect after a death, the NHS bereavement support page is a useful starting point.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you spell out any name in a letter tribute?
Yes. The most common are MUM, DAD, GRANDAD, NAN, BROTHER, SISTER and the deceased’s first name, but we compose any word or short phrase to brief — including REST IN PEACE, ALWAYS, FOREVER, or a child’s nickname.
What size are the standard letters?
Standard height is approximately 9 inches, suitable for transport in the hearse and placement in chapels of rest. Larger pieces of 12–18 inches are available for graveside services and outdoor venues where their scale befits the occasion.
When should the letter tribute be delivered?
Letter tributes must arrive ahead of the cortège and be placed inside the hearse or at the casket before the family arrives — typically 60–90 minutes before the service. Our florists coordinate timing directly with your funeral director.
Are letter tributes appropriate for cremations?
Yes, smaller letter tributes (9–12 inches) are commonly displayed inside the chapel during cremation services and can be taken home afterwards as a keepsake. We coordinate with the crematorium so the tribute is removed before the committal.
Can I see a photo before delivery?
Yes — request a finished photograph in your order notes and our florist will send a high-resolution image to your phone before the tribute leaves the workshop.
